Poem Title

A Sailors Odyssey

Back

When I am gone will you mourn?

For you were not like this when you were born.

I would like to think there is some kindness left in your heart,

For there are so many things I would to you impart.

But time and tide were never on my side,

Not knowing that you were there was joy denied,

I was eventually given the opportunity to know you in part,

But I did not get to know your heart.

Like two ships that never set sail on the same course,

Sailing through storm, tempest and the winds force.

Providence may have altered that odyssey,

For one fine day a craft appeared, a new prodigy.

My signals were true, my sails followed the wind,

The course I seek is to a treasure pinned.

Though rocks may appear and shipwreck assured,

I sail on, hardship and pain endured.

A broadside is fired and I burn and sink,

As I slide to the depths and darkness's brink.

All I ask is to remember where I fell in battle,

Reflect on what could have been and the story tattle.
